Background of actual stadiums in relation to population

	Estadio Tecnológico opened in 1950. At that time the city had a population of 362,000 Capacity of 19 thousand (1 seat per / 19 citizens). The capacity was raised up to 33,500 in 1965.
	Universitario Stadium opened in 1967. At that time the city had a population of 1,100,000. In the original plan the stadium had a capacity of 90 thousand but had to be changed to 43 thousand due economic problems. (1 seat per / 25 citizens).
	Monterrey International Stadium. 2011. Expected population in Monterrey metropolitan area; 4.1 million. Capacity: 75,000 (1 seat per / 55 citizens).

Monterrey International Stadium capacity has a better offer in relation to the population in comparison to the preceding stadiums in the city. With this we keep the “scarce” phenomena to have it full and therefore creating and atmosphere that only a stadium full to its capacity can give.

Monterrey actual average attendance is limited by the capacity of its stadiums. Monterrey market can be expanded with a new International Stadium, which will bring new fans who do not go to soccer games today.

It is important to consider that a new stadium should be planned to be useful for 30 or 50 years. That is why the new Monterrey International Stadium has to consider the future population and fans growth in the city.

Parameters to reach international category level and host high standard world events

An International Stadium has a minimum capacity of 70,000.

The minimum capacity requested to be the host for Olympic Games is of 72,000.

The minimum capacity requested to be the host for the Super Bowl is 70,000.

Since 1966, all World championship finals have been played in stadiums with capacity of more than 72,000.
